Prof. Gilders received his B.A. from the University of Toronto, his M.A. from McMaster University, and his Ph.D. from Brown University. He teaches Hebrew Bible, with special emphases on ritual and sacrifice in ancient Israel, and on pre-modern Jewish biblical interpretation (midrash and medieval commentaries). His methodological interests include ritual theory, reader-oriented literary criticism, and sexuality and gender theory. He is the author of Blood Ritual in the Hebrew Bible: Meaning and Power (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2004).
